Glaucoma is a devastating disease that causes damage to the optic nerve and loss of visual function; it is the main cause of blindness in adults. Previous studies have shown that increased intraocular pressure (IOP) is the major risk factor for glaucoma and its progression. 3) With regard to therapy for glaucoma, topical medications are usually chosen as the primary treatment since reducing IOP is reportedly the most effective treatment approach. 5) Monotherapy with prostaglandin is the treatment of choice.
